CargoTravel.online is a free online utility that helps you estimate cargo volume, weight and shipping costs before you speak to a carrier or freight forwarder. It turns package measurements into the figures that freight is priced on, and shows every step of the calculation.

What Is CargoTravel?

CargoTravel.online is a cargo shipping cost calculator. It is built for one job: helping you understand how your shipment is likely to be measured and billed, so you can plan, budget and compare freight options with more confidence.

Freight pricing often depends on more than the weight on a scale. Carriers look at how much space cargo takes up, convert that space into a weight, and charge on whichever figure is higher. CargoTravel.online works through those rules for you and shows the results in plain language.

The calculator is free to use and runs in your web browser. You don’t need to create an account to use it.

What Our Calculator Does

Enter your package details once and the calculator works out five key figures for your shipment. You can add several package types when your cargo includes boxes of different sizes.

  • CBM

    Total cargo volume in cubic metres, the standard measure for freight space.

    L × W × H (m) × quantity

  • Actual Weight

    The total gross weight of all packages, converted to kilograms.

  • Volumetric Weight

    A weight based on the space your cargo occupies, using the divisor for each freight method.

  • Chargeable Weight

    The weight used for billing: the higher of actual weight and volumetric weight.

How the Calculator Works

Results update instantly as you type, with no page reloads.

  1. Add your route

    Choose the origin and destination countries, and optionally a city, port or airport. These appear in your summary.

  2. Enter package details

    Add the number of packages, their length, width and height in cm, m, inches or feet, and the weight per package in kg or lb.

  3. Choose a freight method

    Select air, sea or road freight. Each method uses its own volumetric rule.

  4. Enter your rates

    Type in the rate per kg or per CBM from your carrier or forwarder. Clearly labelled example rates are provided so you can see how the estimate works.

  5. Review and compare

Calculation Transparency

Every result comes from a published formula, and the calculator shows a step-by-step breakdown using your own numbers. Nothing is hidden and no figures are adjusted behind the scenes. Full precision is kept internally; results are only rounded for display.

Air freight volumetric weight

Default divisor of 6000 cm³ per kg, a common air cargo standard. Adjustable in the calculator settings.

Road freight volumetric weight

Default divisor of 3000 cm³ per kg, about 333 kg per CBM. Adjustable in the calculator settings.

Sea freight

Cost is based on total CBM × rate per CBM. An optional weight/measure (W/M) setting bills the greater of CBM or weight in tonnes, where 1,000 kg counts as 1 CBM.

Worked example: one pallet by air

  • Dimensions 120 × 80 × 100 cm = 1.2 × 0.8 × 1.0 m = 0.96 CBM
  • Volumetric weight: 960,000 cm³ ÷ 6000 = 160 kg
  • Actual weight: 120 kg
  • Chargeable weight: greater of 120 kg and 160 kg = 160 kg
  • With a rate of 5.00 per kg: 160 × 5.00 = 800.00 estimated freight cost

Unit conversions used: 1 cm = 0.01 m, 1 inch = 0.0254 m, 1 ft = 0.3048 m, 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg.

Important Limitations

CargoTravel.online does not provide official carrier quotations. Cost results are estimates based on the rates you enter or on clearly labelled example rates. They are not live market rates or binding offers. This would only change if a specific carrier or rate API integration were explicitly connected and clearly stated on the site; no such integration is currently connected.

The volume and weight calculations are exact for the measurements you enter. The final price you pay, however, is set by your carrier or forwarder and can depend on many factors that a general calculator cannot know, including:

  • Handling fees
  • Port charges
  • Insurance
  • Seasonal pricing
  • Cargo type
  • Service level
  • Carriers may use a different volumetric divisor, round chargeable weight up, or apply minimum charges.
  • Dangerous goods, oversized, perishable or high-value cargo can have special rules and extra costs.
  • Transit times shown are approximate general ranges, not guaranteed delivery times.
  • Changing the currency changes the label only. Rates are not converted between currencies.
  • Always request a formal quotation from your carrier or freight forwarder before booking a shipment.
